How to play
Move the whole tower from the left peg to the right peg, the one with the ring around its base. Move one disc at a time, and never put a disc on a smaller one.
Moving a disc
- Carry it. Touch near a peg and its top disc lifts. Move it on your finger and let go, or throw it: it falls home to the nearest peg. The peg it is heading for lights up, with a faint ghost in the slot it will land in.
- Tap it. Tap a peg to lift its top disc, then tap the peg it should go to. Tap the same peg again to put it back. This is also how the game plays with VoiceOver and Voice Control.
- A peg that can’t take a disc sends it back home and costs no move.
The bars
- Moves and Optimal show how many moves you have made and the fewest the puzzle can be solved in.
- Undo takes back one move at a time, as many as you like.
- Show Me plays the shortest solution from wherever you are, a move about every 0.6 seconds. Tap Stop, or touch the board, to take over again.
- Restart puts the tower back on the left peg.
Settings
- Pegs (3 to 5) and Discs (3 to 8). Changing either starts a new game.
- Zen Mode leaves just the tower: no counts, no hints, no score at the end.
- Landing Ghost shows or hides the faint ring where a carried disc will land.
After you solve it
While you play, the board holds still. Once the tower is on the right peg, drag to look around it and pinch to move closer. The next game puts the board back.
Questions
Why does a puzzle with more pegs take fewer moves?
Extra pegs give the discs more places to wait. Eight discs take 255 moves on three pegs, 33 on four, and 23 on five. The shortest route gets much harder to see, though. The Optimal count is always the true minimum for the board in front of you.
Does the app save my game?
It remembers your settings: the peg and disc counts, Zen Mode, and Landing Ghost. A game in progress lives only while the app is open, so it can be lost when iOS closes the app in the background.
Is there sound?
No. Landings and refused moves are felt as haptics on iPhone.
Does it need an internet connection or an account?
No. The app never connects to the internet and has no account. See the privacy policy.
Which devices does it run on?
iPhone and iPad with iOS 27 or later, in portrait and landscape.
Accessibility
Every peg and control has a VoiceOver label, the text follows Dynamic Type, and Reduce Motion places discs without the flight and effects.
